Cowhide

Cowhide is the type of processed leather most frequently used to produce quality, sturdy men's shoes. Taken from the hides of cows, cowhide boasts a thick structure that is firm yet flexible.

As its name suggests, cowhide is prepared from the hides of cows. It is the raw material of choice for sturdy utility footwear, due to its thick structure that is simultaneously flexible and firm.

The tanning and finishing processes used for cowhide are similar to those used for box calf. That being said, these two types of leather differ significantly in fibre thickness, as well as in the size of their respective cuts. When it comes to cowhide, up to 3 square metres of leather can be culled from a single cow. Cowhide is generally 1.6 to 2.5 millimetres thick. This leather is chrome-tanned, moderately greased, and dyed either black or a vivid colour.
