Men’s Boots

The ur-dandy Beau Brummel made them famous in the 19th century. Ever since then it’s been impossible to imagine men’s fashion without men’s boots. They offer special protection against cold and damp weather as well as an extremely high degree of comfort.

Men’s Boots

At the beginning of the 19th century, when long trousers dominated men’s fashion, men’s boots were the footwear of choice. They became famous in 1820, thanks to George »Beau’ Brummel« the ur-dandy who practically invented gentleman’s style. He always paired his elegant suits with bottines, a kind of laced men’s half-boot. On a side note: Brummel even recommended polishing boots with champagne. Whether he actually did this, however, remains unknown; at any rate, this shoe care technique is inadvisable.

Men’s boots feature double soles for inclement weather

Men’s boots are shoes whose shafts measure up to 20 cm and extend above the ankle. Usually these shoes feature a double sole; the bottommost layer is typically made of water-repellent material. As a result men’s boots are perfect for cold, wet weather and may be worn in the city or in the countryside. They should be worn in the office only upon careful consideration. Only those men’s boots that feature simple leather soles should be worn with a suit, as these are the only kind that are elegant enough in appearance.

Men’s boots come in many varieties

In terms of material and manufacture, men’s boots are similar to classic men’s half-shoes. For example, derby boots enjoy immense popularity. In essence they’re nothing other than a normal derby that’s been fitted with a longer shaft and a reinforced sole. They also feature eight-hole lacing.

Even though men’s boots could be generally categorized as lace-up shoes, they’re available in many different varieties, with many different kinds of closures: from hook-and-eye to zippers, button tabs to simple slip-on boots with straps.
