Body Type & Shoe Selection
A man’s body type determines the types of shoes he should wear. Thickset men do well with sturdy footwear, whereas slender types should choose light men’s shoes.

A simple rule of thumb: big and tall men should opt for large, robust types of men’s shoes. Slender men should reach for light, slim shoes.
Shoes should be chosen to complement body type
Heavier men are best off with a Budapester. It features a high toe cap and a double sole, and it’s remarkable for its robustness. Generally speaking, larger men should purchase shoes with broad toe caps, since these create a complementary bulky appearance. An exception: formal events calls for lighter men’s shoes.
Smaller gentlemen, on the other hand, should steer clear of double soles, broad toe caps and double-stitched shoes. These are far too heavy and overbearing for a delicate frame. Slender men need narrow-cut shoes that taper closely at the toe and feature a thin sole.
Those who’d like to visually elongate their feet should select plain oxfords, plain derby shoes or sleek monk shoes. None of these types of shoes feature decoration or cross seams on the toe cap, which lengthens them in appearance.
