Lasts, formed to mimic the shape of a human foot, play an important part in shoe production. The shoe is built around the last, a method that ensures the stability of the end product. Shoe trees serve a similar purpose in terms of everyday shoe storage. Nico shoe trees preserve shoe shape, eliminate creases from wear, and speed up the shoe drying process.

More than half a century of experience: Nico shoe trees

Nico can claim over half a century of experience in shoe tree production. This Fellbach-based German success story opened for business in 1959 under the name Nico NORBERT SCHMID GMBH + CO. KG. From the beginning the company has focused upon producing and selling shoe trees, shaft shapers, and shoe horns.

Nico executives realized early on that relying upon proprietary production and self-made injection moulds would be crucial to establishing the company’s independence. For more than 40 years, Nico has been making injection moulds for their own use as well as for other companies. They have also been involved in manufacturing technical plastic components for other industry players, a practice the company began in 1962. In the same year they also began to design and produce implements and moulds.

Nico: A brand of the century

At the end of 2009 Nico’s shoe trees earned the company a spot on the "brands of the century" list. The acting CEO Dietmar Schmidt—representing the second generation of family-owned leadership—explained that the company, a global market leader whose products are nearly exclusively made in Germany, easily meets all of the requirements of a “brand of the century”.

Today, roughly 150 employees are responsible for producing Nico shoe trees, which are made of prime wood. The company also offers boot shaft shapers made with patented Sensomatic® technology as well as soft and velvety Contour shoe trees. All of Nico’s shoe trees ensure the well-being of your shoes on a daily basis.

Incidentally, the German Olympic team relied upon Nico products to store their footwear in Peking; the athletes brought their Nico shoe trees with them to China.
