English Men's Shoes

Oxford and Derby are the classic English shoes

English shoes are known for their elegance. The most well-known model is the Oxford, which is easily recognizable with its closed lacing. For those who want to make a stylish appearance in a suit, this classic men's shoe is a must-have.

According to legend, students of Oxford College made the Oxford shoes popular. Nowadays, these lace-up leather shoes come in many variations. Whether in dark brown with full brogue patterning, in black as a wholecut or in red with cap toe stitching, in the world of men's shoes, this noble footwear has become the standard for style, elegance, and confidence.

The Derby shoe conquered the world from England

The other classic English leather shoe is the Derby. Its origin is not entirely clear, but it is believed to be named after the English Earl of Derby. He lived in the late 19th century and, according to legend, had trouble fitting into his boots due to his corpulent appearance. A shoemaker helped the nobleman by making leather boots that promised an easy entry. In fact, compared to the Oxford, it allowed for an easier entry into the shoes. The "Derby" was born and began its triumph in European shoe fashion.

Over the years, the term "Derby cut" has become established for shoes with an open lacing. In the case of the Derby, it has between three and five pairs of eyelets.

By the way: The Blucher has an open lacing just like the Derby. Therefore, it is often confused with the latter by laymen. However, both shoe models can easily be distinguished from each other in their construction. The Blucher does not have any additional quarters.

Goodyear Welted - Benchmark for Quality and Durability

Even today, the British prefer high-quality, Goodyear-welted "British shoes". English shoes are therefore the benchmark for quality and durability. The last shape of English men's shoes, which is usually slightly wider than that of Italian shoes, characterizes the epitome of these legendary shoes. Those who want to shine in the office or at festive events cannot avoid this fine footwear.
