Details about 556
Our No. 556 is a cap-toe Oxford in black. Crafted from finest, French calf this full-leather shoe is handcrafted and Goodyear-welted. Together with the stitched-on toecap and the closed lacing, the French shoe last underlines the elegance of this admirable piece of footwear.
The students of Oxford University already knew the advantages of the cap-toe Oxford in around 1830. Contrary to the ankle boots, which were in fashion at the time, the Oxford shoe allowed them an easy and fast entry and better represented the style of the future academics. Some 20 years later, the Oxford became a well-loved item of the formal dress code and retains its traditional elegance today.
Cap-Toe Oxford – Formal men’s shoe meets a French shoe last
Our No. 556 is steeped in the tradition of this famous footwear: The closed six-hole lacing and the stitched-on toecap underline the formal character, while the French shoe last lends it a modern touch.
The cap-toe Oxford in black derives its high quality from the method of construction – the Goodyear-welting process. This traditional method of manufacture includes more than 210 skilled operations to produce one of our men’s shoes. While the upper is made of fully dyed calfskin leather, inner linings, insole, outsole and heel consist of vegetable-tanned cow leather. Some 15 brass pins hold the heel from our No. 556 in place and offer perfect support, cushioning and durability.
The cap-toe Oxford in black is the ideal choice for any formal occasion. Whether with business or dinner suit, our No. 556 is a confident style statement, packed with personality. Perhaps only for the leisure time is this piece of our formal men’s collection a little too classy. The French shoe last is especially comfortable for gentlemen with a normal or low instep.
The most elegant men’s shoe in the world with a separate toecap (cap-toe). Equipped with the traditional six-hole lacing and crafted from black French calf leather it is a classic men’s dress shoe for any formal occasion.
Our French last features a two-centimetre toe vault, narrowly tapered front, and comfortably wide mid-foot area. Lively and modern in design, this kind of last is perfect for average-width and narrow feet.
This shoe’s upper boasts premium, medium-soft and fully-dyed calfskin. The technical term for this kind of leather is "French calf". This type of leather is known for its flexibility, fine texture, and soft grain.
