Details about 520
Our No. 520 is a classic plain Derby in black. Originally created in the 19th century to the Earl of Derby’s specifications, this shoe model is now known worldwide as a modern business shoe. The German “square-toe last” guarantees a fashionable alternative to the traditional design.
Take advantage of our optional additional features and select the classic shoes in the proper width, too.
Plain Derby in black – comfortable all-rounder
The plain Derby in black is characterised by its simple elegance, its smooth leather upper and its clean lines. Traditionally, a Derby is known for its distinctive cut, with both shoelace tabs sewn on to the top of the vamp. This so-called open lacing was what made life easier for the wide-footed Earl of Derby, because the quarters allowed him to easily open out his shoes. Indeed, our No. 520 has five-eyelet tabs, offering a high degree of comfort throughout the day. The German square-toe last adds to the comfortable fit, too. This much-loved last is appropriate for normal width or wider feet and lends this classic shoe model a dynamic character.
The Goodyear-welting process guarantees that this full-leather shoe adheres to the highest quality standards. This traditional method of shoe manufacturing, which was patented in 1869, involves stitching the sole and shoe upper together by a thin leather strip (or welt) and creates a breathable, comfortable and easy-to-repair piece of footwear.
The plain Derby in black is suitable for both the office and your free time, too. The black leather upper matches dark suits, as well as cord and jeans. Gentlemen with a higher instep will especially enjoy the comfortable, but elegant shoe last of our No. 520.
Please note: The Derby is the ideal choice for all men with a normal and higher instep.
Classic shoes in different varieties
Men with wide forefeet and/or elevated insteps can also enjoy this elegant, classic shoe—it is now available in a wider option. It features a greater overall width, providing wider feet with plenty of room for comfort.
The favourite men’s shoe in Europe. Smooth and undecorated, the plain Derby in black is a comfortable all-rounder. With the traditional open five-hole lacing this formal men’s shoe is the ideal companion for almost any occasion.
German Square-Toe Last
Popular in German-speaking nations, this last is similar to the Italian square-toe last. This tapering last features an average-height instep and a greater overall width than its Italian counterpart. Its elegant toe is also wider than that of the Italian square-toe last.
This shoe’s upper boasts premium, medium-soft and fully-dyed calfskin. The technical term for this kind of leather is "French calf". This type of leather is known for its flexibility, fine texture, and soft grain.
This model is also available in a special, wide version—perfect for those with wider-than-average feet. Made using a wider last, this design boasts a roomier structure and greater wearing comfort.
