Details about 346
Our No. 346 is a classic black wholecut Oxford with an astonishing design. Generally a wholecut Oxford with a closed lacing is the most elegant and versatile of all men’s dress shoes in the world. Painstakingly cut from one single piece of leather, here a curved seam at the closure reduces the formality, but accentuates the shoe’s handsome lines.
Wholecut Oxford with an exciting seam
From a shoe-making standpoint, the wholecut Oxford is one of the most difficult shoe styles to last. The shoe last must represent the foot’s anatomical information, at the same time giving the finished shoe a pleasing and fashionable appearance. Because a wholecut Oxford has no stitching to allow some give when pulling the leather over the last, the manufacture is very difficult. If not done properly, it can create an area of loose leather.
Different to the classic wholecut Oxford, our No. 346 has no straight cut. The curved seam sits on a more natural join, while the shoelaces run through the five eyelet tabs exceptionally flat and discreetly. This exciting detail turns a classic man’s dress shoe in a real eye-catcher, without excessive flamboyance.
The generous, sweeping closure allows comfortable entry for the foot, whilst the closed lacing guarantees a tight and snug fit. The soft, black calfskin radiates an astonishing shine meanwhile, making our black wholecut Oxford the ideal choice for formal occasions. Because of its fashionable seaming it might not be best for a wedding or other too traditional settings – it will though also look fantastic with a simple pair of jeans.
The shoe’s upper is painstakingly crafted from a single piece of leather, closed by seaming at the back. The black Wholecut with a characteristic closed five-hole lacing is the purest expression of the Oxford style.
Similar to the classic last, but slightly narrower at the toe—a subtle difference. This type of last is distinguished by its balanced design and elegant appearance. It is ideal for those with relatively high insteps.
This shoe’s upper boasts premium, medium-soft and fully-dyed calfskin. The technical term for this kind of leather is "French calf". This type of leather is known for its flexibility, fine texture, and soft grain.
The level of extravagance of our No. 346 is extremely high. The Wholecut is the definition of understated extravagance. But its curved leather seam breaks its understatement and lends this classic men’s dress shoe a fashionable edge.
